Anne Young founder of Youngs Jewellers established in 1983 and then called ‘A & K Young’. Anne a very skilled Silver and Goldsmith, once taught jewellery at Middlesbrough Art College and had a small shop at Staithes, ten miles north of Whitby.
A & K Young, in Whitby, soon became a successful manufacturing and retail outlet. Her unusual unique designs, many based on natural sea life creatures, including crabs and shells plus local heritage pieces such as ‘Caedmon’s Cross’ and ‘The Octofoil Book Mount’ have been hugely popular over the years. Anne also undertook individual commissions, alterations and repairs.
In June 2004, Anne retired and sold the business to Cathryn Pink, Nadine Elliott-Parkinson and Sandra Pearson. Along with three other employees the business continues to thrive, as it has the advantage of offering bespoke design, manufacturing and repair work on its premises.
